Mugabe Caps 2,398 National University of Science &Technology (NUST) Graduands

Two thousand three hundred and ninety-eight graduands have been capped at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST)  by the institution’s Chancellor President Robert Mugabe.

Two honorary degrees were also awarded to Dr Obadiah Thembani Moyo of rural libraries and Dr Barbra Nkala an author and publisher.

Presenting his report, NUST’s Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Samson Sibanda said the institution is in the process of reverting back to its mandate of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in line with the government’s new national thrust.

“NUST has an enrolment of 8 696 students with science, engineering and technology sectors accounting for 59 percent,” said Professor Sibanda.

Professor Sibanda noted that for effective learning at the institution, there is need to upgrade infrastructure.

Dr Obadiah Moyo of rural libraries was honoured at the ceremony for his initiative that has enabled rural communities access reading and learning materials using a donkey drawn mobile library.

The concept has been adopted in many African countries.

Dr Barbra Nkala was honoured for her writing and publishing work that has seen some of her books being used as textbooks in schools.
